If the goal is to step off a plane (or out of a car) looking crisp, the most wrinkle-resistant material in everyday wear is polyester—especially in knit constructions or performance “travel” weaves. Polyester fibers have strong shape memory, so they spring back after being folded, packed, and worn. Blends that include polyester (like poly-spandex or poly-rayon) can feel softer while staying noticeably smoother than most natural fibers.
That said, “most wrinkle-resistant” can depend on what you’re packing for. For dress shirts and tailored pieces, high-quality synthetic blends and structured knits tend to resist creases better than 100% cotton or linen. For casual tops and dresses, jersey knits (often polyester or poly-blends) are dependable because knit loops hide minor rumpling and relax quickly once worn.
Polyester (100% or blended): The go-to for wrinkle resistance, durability, and easy care. Many travel-ready garments use polyester to stay smooth straight from a suitcase.
Nylon: Also very wrinkle-resistant and lightweight. It’s common in technical apparel and packs down well, though it can show shine in dressier styles.
Spandex/Elastane blends: A small percentage improves stretch and recovery, helping fabric bounce back after sitting or being compressed.
Merino wool: Naturally resilient and better at resisting wrinkles than many people expect. It’s especially useful for multi-day trips because it also manages odor well.
Linen: Breathable and polished in its own way, but it creases quickly.
100% cotton (especially woven cotton): Comfortable and classic, yet prone to wrinkling when packed tightly.
Rayon/viscose: Soft and drapey, but often wrinkles easily unless blended or knit.

Fold along existing seams, use packing cubes to reduce shifting, and place heavier items at the bottom. Knits and polyester blends generally come out smoother, and hanging items for a few minutes after arrival helps release minor creases.
